If you have the full service manual, a dvm, and a lever brake but need help with a brake issue... Sounds like you might as well order a brake. Only OEM Ezgo, not the Ezgo HD brake.

Brake has to have 48v to unlock so you must be getting that. Here is a place on EBAY that sales OEM brake. https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-PART-61...gAAOxydB1SoVPr

Would it be worth temporarily adding a beeper in parallel to the brake, since it's intermittent, to be sure it's getting 48 volts when it acts up?

Someone tell us if this is a bad idea, as I know RXVs are ornery.

There is much more to it than just supplying 48V to the motor brake to unlock it. The controller measures current flow through the motor brake during the powerup test, and while it is in use. If the current drawn by the Motor Brake falls below the minimum or above the maximum, it will trip a Motor Brake fault... either Motor Brake Open, or Motor Brake OC (Over Current).

I would replace the brake. My experience has been that replacing the brake fixes RXV brake problems. The link above is a good source and is less than half the list price. Only use an OEM brake.

If you replace it tighten the bolts evenly to the minimum torque ( I think 50 in/lbs). If you don't have a torque wrench only tighten them until the lock washer is compressed. Be sure the switch is in neutral and run/tow switch is in tow when you tighten the bolts. I always put it in tow to release the brake when putting the third bolt in. It makes it a lot easier to start the bolt.
