Thumbs up Motor Testing Results / 10-5-18

Test Cart:
'07 DS IQ
58.8v Lithium Pack
Alltrax XCT500a
400a Solenoid
2g Cables
6" Lift
10" x 22" AT's

For each motor test these parameters were duplicated:

58.38 volts (verified with hand held)
500 amp max settings in controller
Rev Limiter set to 6000 RPM's
Standard Throttle Setting
75w/90 synthetic rear-end lube
Brake drag eliminated
Windshield down
Front End Tow set at 3/16" In
Tire Pressures at 20 PSI/Ea
All bearings verified free and all fittings greased (Synthetic)

Conditions/Qualifiers:
"Good Looking" 225 pound test driver (Okay, okay, maybe 228 )
3 passes on each motor with the combined average posted
84 degree ambient temperature
98 degree asphalt (matters cause we were testing some cars that day, too)
1/4 mile distance (1320')
Elevation 16' ASL
Cross-wind of 2-3 mph

Results:
Stock GE - 27.2 mph (but was very noisy like bearing failure - (Yup, we killed it!))
Admiral A2 - 33.5 mph (smooth run up to top speed)
FSIP Speed - 34.9 mph (smooth run up to top speed - similar to Admiral))
PQ Executioner - 38.1 mph (smooth run up to limiter with noticeable torque increase by virtue of steering loss at launch)

Note- Testing was on a flat asphalt road with the same driver. Cart was immediately pressed to WOT and the rev limiter was active or top speed reached prior to the 1/8th mile. The Field Map was changed for each motor and all testing was on the same day, same cart, same parameters. All motor temps except the GE was at 135 degrees or less. I did not have a D&D, so I did not get to test it, but may next time if I get one.

Note- This is a lithium pack that was topped at 58.38 volts prior to each test, is ~220 pounds lighter then a FLA battery cart and was tweaked to the max for testing purposes.

Nole Fan, now leave everything the same but switch out the Lithium pack back to lead acid, and try again.

Very interesting be nice to see if all motors had rpm readings my thinking is all motors would not go to the rev limit otherwise they would be the same speed?

The Stock GE motor does not have the HorsePower to reach the RPM limit on his cart setup and conditions.

The PQ Executioner must not have had the pole setting correct since it went way above the RPM limit where the Controller would have cut the power, but great performance.

The Admiral A2 and the FSIP Speed Motors had enough HorsePower to keep the cart around the RPM limit, we just don't know which one is a better performer and got to the RPM limit first.

NoleFan4Ever, I made an assumption that is probably incorrect, was the speed posted the highest during the run or the speed at the finish line?

I should say the A2 and FSIP ran out of speed (or no more increase), but no question the PQ would get up there and and then quickly lag and maintain the speed. And when I say lag, I mean it is a noticeable lag as you feel the acceleration just stop.

I will change my notation to be more reflective.

The highest sustained during the pass. We ran 3 and then averaged them together.

If those speeds were the highest recorded and not necessarily the instant speed at the end of the run, and since You have your Armature Regen set to zero amps, that would indicate the Executioner reached the limit with a lot more "gusto" and overshot by almost 1,000RPM.

I may need to talk to PQ about the exact deal with Regen used with that motor since I use Regen heavily for braking.

It would be really neat to have the Alltrax monitor file for each run

I truly miss my Regen in the neighborhood, but not to the point I will give up the motor. Robby did tell me there is still a little regen left, but not enough to damage the Armature/Commutator if freewheeling down a hill and the regen were to kick in. That was his concern when I spoke to him about it.
