Power Drive Charger Question
Gents,
I am helping a non-mechanical friend with a charger issue. His charger is a 2001 Power Drive (not a PD2). All the same, he plugs into his cart and there is no charger action whatsoever. When we plugged my charger into his cart it charges a full cycle. Certainly, we have a charger issue at hand. I had a new relay and new circuit breaker on hand and I put those in his charger. The charger will now actually kick on for a second at which time the circuit breaker pops. It was not doing this prior to the relay swap. It had no action whatsoever before the switch. I went and ordered a new heat sink assembly as, by looking at the charger, there isn't much left there to replace. Being that this charger is shorting out I will take a close look at the general wiring as well. Other than that, is there anything else that I should be checking on this thing? |

Re: Power Drive Charger Question
You got it. Brkr, relay and heat sink is all that you can do. It is probably in the heatsink as that also works as a rectifier. If it is still tripping, there must be a bare wire or something grounding somewhere as that brkr in on the AC side. The fuse is on the DC side.

Re: Power Drive Charger Question
Diode assembly has probably failed. Remove the wires from the diodes and check them with a diode tester.
Also be sure to check all of the wire terminals for burning or poor connection. Especially if the charger has even been exposed to moisture or left out in the rain the terminals can get crusty and a poor connection will cause problems. |

Re: Power Drive Charger Question
The heatsink is more than likely your issue. If the heatsink doesn't fix it you have a short in the transformer. If that's the case, it's scrap metal. Make sure you ordered a 1015914 heatsink. There are other heatsinks on the market that look the same, but the diodes are inverted.
