Default Long distance charging of 2013 Precedent

Looking for some help and advice charging my 2013 Precedent.

The way my condo is set up, the parking area is 70' away from where I can plug the charger in. The 20A GFI plug is on a 20A circuit.

I would like to use a 100' long 10/3 SJTOW rated extension cord run from the plug to the cart, plugged into the Powerdrive3 charger resting on the floorboard. The 10/3 cord is rated for 15A.

Any issues with charging this way?

OK to leave for a week or more plugged in?

thats a long run ...if its your only option , you have to try it....i would cut the extra 30 feet off that cord for sure .....and see if things get hot when its charging....

but i wouldnt leave that laying around for weeks at a time.....

See: https://www.southwire.com/calculator-vdrop

I calculate a voltage drop of 2.62% at 15 amps using 100 ft of 10 AWG using the above calculator.

Anything under 3% voltage drop should be acceptable.

Your charger likely puts out well under 15 amps ... you should be good to go without having to cut your 100 ft cord.

It would be nice to get a confirmation. Does anyone care to double check this calculation?

I personally would not leave it plugged in long term. I would suggest charging it upon use and removing the extension cord each time to remove the hazard of a live extension cord (trip hazard, mechanical damage to cord, a live cord in the rain, etc).

if its gona be in the same spot each time , i would cut it to length instead of running it through a 30 ft coil....those numbers would look better at 70 feet versus 100 i would think also.....

I have a 100' 10g cord that I run my wire feed welder off of when there's no power nearby. I pull a LOT more than a cart charger through that thing. You'll be fine.

A Powerdrive 3 at full charge output will draw around 10 amps. With the length of that run that might go up to 11-12 so as long as your cord is rated for at least 15 then you should be OK. Remember that the full current draw is when you first plug it in, and tapers off after a few hours.

When we were on vacation, I charged my cart every day for a week with a 10/3 100' extension cord with no problems.

Interesting that a 10-3 tension cord is only rated at 15 amps number 12 is 20 amps and number 14 is rated at 15 amps

That is because of the standard plug on the end of the cord. Receptacles it plugs into are rated 15A. It is about reducing voltage drop when you increase wire size for a 100' long 15A cord.
