is your OBC cooking your batteries.....
my cart is an 2005 Iq precedent. Every time i charged the 4 batteries (now 5 yrs old) the charger went from 15 amps down to 1 to 2 amps and shut off.
The shut off pack voltage was about about 63-64 volts and within one day dropped to 70% charge (don't forgot old batteries) The top of the batteries were always wet... all 4.... only conclusion was the on board computer (OBC) was over charging the batteries.... Finally this week the OBC went bad and even after a reset would not power up the controller (no 48 volts on the blue wire to controller ). Decided to eliminate the the controller (over $300) by Bi-passing it and regulate the charge directly by the battery charger. Bought from Buggies unlimited a charge controller and the results seem dramatic. The charge begins at 15 amps and when the pack voltage reads about 61.5 to 62 volts the charge automatically shuts. The difference is the shutting point is at the 7 amp charge point and not all the way down to 1or 2 amps The tops of the batteries are no longer wet after charge. And one day later the pack is at 85-90% charge. My conclusion the above speaks for itself.... What is your conclusion ?? ( the photo is what is bought for the charger) |

Re: is your OBC cooking your batteries.....
Your OBC was likely already failing. They normally hold at about 5-7 amps for the finish charge rate. Anything lower usually indicates a problem with the OBC and it will either cook the batteries or will eventually fail altogether.
Unfortunately it’s an increasingly common failure item on Club Car carts, up until 2014 when they finally ditched the OBC in favor of smart chargers. |

I actually thought that was normal (shut of at 1-2 amps) ,since it did that ever since i got the cart around 2010.

Re: is your OBC cooking your batteries.....
Mine is currently doing the same thing, cooking my brand new batteries I just put in last summer. It just started this early this week. Charges and when the charger gets to about 3 amps it would just stay there and not shut off. I have a thread started on this and have gotten some good advice. I now need to just charge the batteries and unplug the charger when they are charged and not walk away and let it do its thing. I have an Extreme Team 200 amp/hr kit on order, so I don't want to spend the money on a new charger or obc.

Re: is your OBC cooking your batteries.....
so why don't you remove the club car's computer and buy the same attachment for the charger that i showed in the first paragraph.
nowe my charge is regulated by the charger and not the club car |

Re: is your OBC cooking your batteries.....
I totally over looked this! I just read the instruction sheet, it states on 48 volt carts the the shut off is 33.6 volts, am I miss understanding what this means? It sounds like it doesn't bring the charge all the way up like the stock charger does?

to eliminate the computer cut the blue wire from the computer to the controller . then apply 48 volts + to the blue wire at the controller. Caution : now the cart CAN MOVE if you step on gas while charging. |

this thread intrigued me, upon further research, this timer looks like a dud
if it works, great. if it doesn't, there's no support or warranty https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/show...t=45852&page=3 |

it is a battery voltage monitor ....which reads the voltage of the battery pack as the charge progresses. Then shuts off when the pack reaches 62 volts. (for a 48 volt system) |

Re: is your OBC cooking your batteries.....
label reads timer. the many, many websites that sell them also say timer.
even the everyday timex has a microprocessor, but it's still just a timer glad it works for you, but without any warranty or support, buyer beware |
