Default Parasitic draw 03 DS 48v

I have an 03 48v DS w/ a Lester Summit II onboard and brand new T875s. I have a 48-12 converter that is wired key switched EXCEPT the 12v constant for my stereo. I have a 280ma parasitic draw from the stereo when the cart is off. Should this be of any worry? I’m debating ditching the converter for a 12v aux setup. Comments? Concerns? Leave it alone and don’t worry???? Cart is plugged in when not in use.

What draw do you show if you remove the fuse on the B+ wire of the converter?

What about the radio too? Most radios shouldn’t draw more than a few mA (5ish) but I’ve seen radios in boats draw quite a bit more when moisture had been involved

Im not even using the converter in this test. Radio is wired directly to a 12v battery with a meter inline

What is the make and model of the radio...I had one in a car that was drawing .800ma and killing the battery.. After a lot of research I had to download an upgrade to fix it...

It seems like the radio isn’t switching off correctly. It should draw less than 5mA when off, possibly as low as 1mA. 280mA is pretty normal for a radio that is on but without music playing.

As has already been asked, what make and model is the radio.

I’m assuming the displays are powered from the same power source as the radio. Are you sure it’s the Radio and not the displays? Have you tried powering up just the radio.

Each one of those display segments can draw 10mA-20mA. You have 29 illuminated, that’s a minimum 290mA just there.

Cheers
Pat.

I seriously doubt those 2 displays pull more that 5-10 mA total.

Please clarify... do you have 280 mA draw total on the system? Or JUST from the radio itself? If it’s just the radio itself, there’s a problem. If it’s total from the system, try flipping the run/tow switch to tow. I’d bet that drops close to 100mA alone.

7 Segment LED displays are very inefficient. Each SEGMENT on a 7 segment display is an individual LED. For a green or red LED to have any usable brightness, especially in daylight it will require at least 10mA. 10mA x 29 lit segments = 290mA. If it were back lit LCD then yes, 5-10mA total.

Cheers
Pat.

I figured it out. Radio now draws 0.05ma when off. I wasnt shutting the key switch off during my test, just hitting the power button :(
