Scotty, i would never do that, put 36v in a 48v cart just passing on info I learned.

a 36 volt motor in a 48 volt cart is the boss........now you don,t want to put a 48 volt in a 36 volt cart but the other way dosn,t get any better i have 2 running that right now both mine and have had 0 issues.........................................

Shadowman and Scotty,

I was looking up my motor which is GE 5.5 hp at 5700 rpm. Funny but it says 48 volt (or 36 volt) so they must agree that a 36 volt motor will perform better in a 48 volt system. I also have an Alltrax Axe 400 amp controller.

On a sidenote I am about to upgrade my Precedent with a 7 hp at 5106 rpm sepex motor and 500 amp alltrax controller but I doubt it will be as fast as my DS cart, I will let you know.
