no power when rolling backwards
I installed an Alltrax DCX 500A controller and 22" tires on a 2007 CC Precedent. (HD solenoid and #4AWG battery wires, too, but still the stock regen motor.) On a test run through a course today I found that there was no throttle response if the cart was rolling slowly in either direction. I had to stop, and with my foot on the brake then apply throttle to move forward. I used to be able to apply light brakes to get to the bottom of a hill, then just hit the throttle to get up the other side. Now I have to stop completely at the bottom before the throttle kicks in. Is this a function of the controller and the stock motor, or something that needs to be tweaked in the DCX programming? I'm investigating a motor upgrade, but will this problem still exist even with a higher torque/speed motor?

Just curious, what is your top speed now after this upgrade with the stock motor? I was suspecting to gain 5 mph but Im still running the same as before at 22mph. I'm beginning to think my batteries may be shot and are not delivering enough amps to keep up with the demand from the new controller, but I won't know until I do a load test on them next weekend. Re: no power when rolling backwards
I don't believe the controller will get you speed, but will greatly increase your torque. I have two lifted precedents, one with stock controller and one with the DCX500. Top speed on flat ground are roughly the same for both, but the DCX 500 pulls hills way better, has no regen so downhill speed is much faster and take off is much faster than the stock controller.

Re: no power when rolling backwards
This is a safety feature of teh controller. It will not allow you apply power if the cart is rolling from a dead stop, this can be adjusted by the brake current setting scroll bar. The less brake current you have the more you will run into this. The more you have the less it will be a problem. On my ezgo I have it set to 13%. Anyway, just stating it's normal and have experienced it numerous of times on the carts I have built.
ALSO, Pretty **** dangerous to un-check the High Pedal disable, if you have the pedel depressed and the controller comes on it'll instantly go. This feature keeps the cart from shooting off like a rocket if the pedal is depressed and the controller gets power, plus keeps you from breaking parts. |
