2 speed rear end?

went for ride tonight and pushed things a little. traveled to the other end of my road wide open in high gear. Its about 2 miles. came back wide open and then a little hill climbing. Hill climbing in high gear. ( still does it ) voltage dropped to 41.
climbed in low gear now worries 47 volts.
got home and felt wires and controller controller a little warm, not much wires cool. Motor was very warm but I could keep my hand on it. but was uncomfortable.

In Low gear on pavement . in reverse it will spin tires. in forward it will bring tires off ground a few inches.

this is with the 25" tires.

plenty of torque, and plenty of speed.

You should find out, reason I ask is your speed numbers do not sound right.

You should also at some point consider a reversing contactor, instead of the FnR

my motor temps average around 170

You are talking way out of my league.

Im not sure what my motor temp is but Im sure it wasnt 170 I could keep my hand on it. but it was uncomfortable. I have a temp gauge coming. a laser one from harbor frieght.

what does the thing do that you talk about?

what equipment do you have scott?

at 2300 rpm, your should be at around 16 mph in high and 8 in low, so your motor is probly turning about double that rpm, if as you state, 27 in high.

still confused as to how you got 20 in low.

A reversing contactor is just another way of switching between forward and reverse, using a rocker switch , most of the time, anything above say 500 amps, and the HD FnR can not take it, and eventually fail, I have seen it personally dozens of times, there are exceptions, and if your wires coming from your forward/ reverse are nice and cool, then all is good, most are not.

If you read my sig, then you will see I have almost the same thing as you.

The rear end has 20to1, low gears and 10 to 1 high gears.
With my 23" tires I was getting 27.? mph in high and 18.? in low with full throttle on a flat road. it took a long time to get that. On my whole road ( 2 miles ) with curves and slight hills it never got under 25 mph

with the 25" agressive tread tires it did reach 20 for breif moment but mostly 19.2 was the best I got in high. and it was a solid 20 in low.

still with a fresh battery pack to the other end of my road it never got under 25.

all wires, and controller were not hot. motor was very warm to the touch almost uncomfortable but I could keep my hand there for 30 seconds.

dont have any answers to why it does, but it meets my wanted requirements of high torque in low gear and not going below 25 on my hard road in high gear.

It might burn up tomorrow. I don't know if it does, then I will regroup and seek advise from scottyB. because if it does then my cart guy doesn't have the know how of what I want.

wish I had more answers but I'm a gunsmith. not an electrician . lmao.

Mine is also converted to series. and I am running 48 volts

Ok guys if I have my way Sunday I will get some pics and vids of spoken accomplishments.

Scott tell me about this RPM thing. is there some kind of chart that tells you what rpm I should be turning? do you think Im running something that is not safe?
I have felt my wires at the solinoid, and forward and reverse switch and they are always cool.
