If you're the original owner. You would know what has been done to the battery bay. If not, like in my case, the previous owners may have done all kinds of stuff to clean the batteries including using a hose. I suspect they pored baking soda over the batteries and hosed it down over the years.

I cleaned the frame with a round wire brush attached to a drill and sprayed an etching mag wheel cleaner on it. I had to punch out the acid eaten screws and put bigger self tapping stainless steel screws. I also sprayed that area with black enamel to hide the pitting. I noticed the bucket screw hole area has a ridge around the screw with a small hole next to it. I suppose it's there to drain any fluid around the screw. Problem is the hole is on top of the frame. I then applied a thin rubber piece (1"x1") between the frame and the battery bucket. As to act like a gasket. Hopefully, preventing future draining onto the frame.

Mud dobbers use mud to build their nest, the paper wasp nest is a completely different type of wasp and are more aggressive than the mud dobbers.

I say this because we have a bunch of both down south, it can be a real pain, both of them lol
