2005 DS IQ 48V Cutting Out Uphill
Hello all,
First post. Been researching a lot here, trying to solve a problem. I finally found what I needed in this thread, but thought I would post a new one to give my specific symptoms and solution. The cart would not always go on the first press of the pedal. When it did go, it would cut out every time uphill. There is a steep uphill grade out of my driveway and it cut out halfway up every time. Letting off the accelerator pedal and depressing it got it to the top of the hill. The cart would also cut out on level grade with the pedal fully depressed. Initially I thought it was the MCOR, and replaced that first. There was some slight improvement in the response of the pedal but the cart still cut out. More research here pointed me to the speed sensor. I ordered that and replaced it yesterday - problem solved! The sensor had two parts - the cap with wires that attaches to the motor housing with two small screws, and a circular part which bolts to the center of the motor with one larger bolt. That part was worn out, and was no where near circular anymore. The MCOR repair was easy (it's an after market MCOR 1) and only took two screws. Just needed to jack up the front enough to get underneath. The speed sensor was a bit more work. Jacking up just the right rear tire, removing the wheel, and then removing the wheel well cover. There were two bolts which I needed to remove, but had to work a wrench to the back side before I could ratchet them out the front. Putting them back was a pain because there are spacers that go between the well and the frame, and it's a blind operation lining them up with the holes in the frame. Still, it was not too bad of a repair. Once accessible, replacing the speed sensor was a piece of cake. I think replacing the MCOR was still a good idea - maybe it was not as worn out as the speed sensor but it did improve the pedal response a little. Hope this helps -- Phil |

By any chance is your motor a Plum Quick Bandit?

No, it looks like I have to original equipment motor. My cart is not all that fast uphill but it gets the job done.
