Chris, I have a hypothesis which is based on both personal experience and logic, you can take it or leave it (I won't be offended). Here we go.

You have a pinhole in the diaphragm of your fuel pump. The pump works as a result of the oscillating crankshaft pressures. On the downstroke (due to the pinhole) a tiny amount of fuel is being sucked from the pump into the crankcase. This extra fuel is

a) causing the cart to run rich
b) causing it to run faster than EZGO ever intended
c) causing unburnt fuel to collect in the header and soak the gasket which in turn causes the backfire.

My suggestion is to therefore replace the fuel pump, but of course I could be wrong, that also happened once.

Good luck
Dave

I'll take any advice you have since you know 10 times more than I do about this stuff. It's only a $30 part so its worth a shot. Not sure I like the idea of going slower though....My neighbor has a EZ GO Workhorse and we load them both up with kids and race around the neighborhood. He gets us on the hills (the bigger tires slowed me down) but we fly past him on the straights. I did take it on a long ride the other night and it didn't back fire at all so I am a little confused. I might just monitor it for a little bit and then if it acts up again I'll order the new fuel pump. Thanks again for all your help.

Chris, is your throttle plate closing tight when you let off the peddle?

Stove bolt
Is your cart electric or gas? Is it a single cylinder Robin 2 cycle?

So new to this golf cart thing! I believe that the above answers my question, I just need help ensuring that the carb and throttle cables are correct. Can anyone send/post a picture of what a properly assembled/adjusted throttle cable looks like?

Also have an issue with throttle. I have two speeds, full and stop nothing in between. Kids love it but it back fires every time you let off then reapply the pedal and the speed can get a bit excessive. As I began to tinker with adjustments also lost a lot of power?

Help a rookie out
