If it backfires after you coast down a hill and step on it again, double check 2 things. 1st, make sure the throttle plate closes COMPLETELY when you let off the gas. Otherwise it will suck some fuel in, but that fuel isnt getting burned because you're not pressing the gas, which kills spark. Then when you step.on it again. Theres a lot of extra gas to burn so it backfires.

2nd, if that doeant work, make sure your float needle is fully seating. If theres a tiny piece of junk in there it will seat enough to to completely flood, but it's still letting a little extra through so results are similar when you step on the gas, the throttle plate opens, and it sucks in all the extra fuel.

Normally it's just the throttle not closing all the way.

And using a 1" belt will help with a little extra torque. As will a machined secondary clutch.

THANKS FOR EVERYONES HELP SO FAR!

Coasting downhill then tapping the throttle causes it to backfire out of the carb. Too lean for sure, can I make the adjustment with the screw in the top of the carb? We live at 5800 feet in the mountains, it should be rich at this altitude. when the carb was apart I turned the top screw all the way in then 1 1/2 turns out. I assume thats the air fuel mix screw.

Also its probable normal but I would like the clutch to backshift sooner and overall be more aggressive as we are underpowered at this altitude, LKM if u have suggestions or adjustments for it.

Here's a link to the directions for properly adjusting your cables but the reference pics are no longer available because of Photobucket.
