I bought it from buggies unlimited like all my other parts, not sure where it was made but it seemed very similar to the original.

On the jack stands I got the clutches to almost fully engage in reverse, but not in forward, on the ground it goes about 1-2 mph forward and 5mph backwards. If I squeeze the drive belt together I can get it to touch and the driven clutch only opens a little bit. Does anyone think a smaller belt would help?

They do”look” exactly like the real deal. But they sure aren’t.

Sounds like the primary clutch (drive) is not functioning correctly . It closes with increased RPM when the belt is off, but not with belt in place - Correct? Belt size won’t matter until clutch is working. 2 hours use or not doesn’t matter if doesn’t do what it’s supposed to. At something a bit above idle , it should begin to close, , then continue that way until the RPM slow down again. ( actual RPM engagement is a function of the springs & weights )
The secondary ( driven) clutch is moving opposite- stars out fully closed, with increased engine speed, opens up.

My 2 cents . . .

Thanks jclark138, I guess I'll take the drive clutch off and see if I hear anything moving in there

Can you get the cover off the primary clutch? That would let you see what’s there.

Yes I have the cover off and without the belt I can see it operating, it seems to be working fine, no noises and moves in smoothly.

Good if the new clutch is not the problem! Seems Stovebolt and I were both leaning towards primary clutch( post#5,7 &9) and you checked that the clutch isn’t slipping on the crank? ( under a load) Next item would be the belt, though if it were slipping you should hear & smell something foreign. Might PM; cgtech, Mooncarter, Fairtax4me, or others - lot more experience than me! !

Can you take a video showing exactly what is happening? Might show us something you are missing. Probably easiest to upload it to YouTube and paste the link here.
