295cc to 350mci

I have a 99 gas ezgo with the 295 engine in it. It’s an okay engine but would like a little more pep. Would a newer 03+ 350 work in this cart? What mods would have to be done?

Also if I kept the 295 could I put the newer style ignition on it for easier starting at least?

The older pre-MCI and newer mci engines are completely different, even though they look pretty much the same on the outside. Virtually nothing is interchangeable.

If it were mine and I had a good running pre-MCI engine you couldnt pay me enough to replace it with a MCI. I'm not at all a fan of the changes made during the redesign. Yes they may start a little easier but thats where the "pros" column ends. The "cons" far outweigh them. Exhaust studs stripping out, piss poor lubrication system design, overall cheating out of parts in general. They just dont last like the older motors did.

That said, I've owned both and really have never been able to tell the power difference between the 2, even up a giant hill. I can definitely notice a difference between the club car Kawasaki 290 vs 350 motors, especially up a giant hill... but in the ezgo the 295 is so strong the difference in the 350 is negligible at best. If you're having power issues, 90% of the time the belt is worn and/or driven clutch is weak. Replace it with a 28° clutch and it will really wake up. Little things like a valve adjustment can make a world of difference as well.

I put a 350cc in my 2000 TXT and used the old 295cc head with no issues. It actually gave it more compression & HP using the 295 head. I added the High Torque Clutch and also upgraded to the 350 Carb which had a bigger jet. Everything bolted up perfectly with no fabrication. She runs like a raped ape.

Yes but I dont think you can use a mci head on a pre-MCI bottom end.

You can put a pre MCI 295 head on a MCI 350 motor, I don't know about the other way around though.
