Default Speed

My '94 G8 Yamaha electric golf cart has had little required maintenance. Purchased used in '96. Recently I installed new batteries. Cart works fine with a strange anomoly, it goes faster in reverse than in forward. It was outfitted with a shunt to boost the speed prior to my ownership. Nothing has been changed or removed, just batteries.

I am not that familiar with older Yamaha's but sounds like its wired wrong as REVERSE for safety sake is supposed to be slower by either using 1/2 of battery pack or controller design?
PLEASE DO AS SHADOWMAN SAYS AND DISCONNECT THE BOOST IF ITS STILL HOOKED UP? I SAW THE REMAINS OF A CART AFTER MOTOR EXPLODED RUINING DIFFERENTIAL AND SAW WHERE PIECES CAME UP THROUGH SEAT TO WHERE DRIVER WAS SITTING AT TIME?????

I suspected the shunt but since it was on when I bought it, I kind of ruled it out. Thanks for your reply.
