Rolling backwards down hill
There has been an overheated plasticky smell lately after driving my EZGO electric cart. I was driving around the woods going up a hill, she quit and started rolling back down. Found a burnt end of a cable on the forward-reverse switch plate thing. I put a new end on the cable and now something clicks when you mash the accelerator, but goes nowhere. Any ideas about where to go from here?

Re: Rolling backwards down hill
2004 EZGO TXT, series wound I believe. Full pack voltage is ~38.7 volts.

Re: Rolling backwards down hill
Replaced the f/r switch from another cart same model. It will run in reverse fine now but just shudders and doesn't move forward.

Re: Rolling backwards down hill
Shuddering is usually a result of voltage drop. As in battery or supply line problem.

Re: Rolling backwards down hill
Would a bad terminal in the f/r I put in it yesterday be the cause of the voltage drop? The cart it came from hasn't been run in a while because it was overheating, so it may have issues.

Re: Rolling backwards down hill
Do you think a new f/r switch would be the best route to try next?

Re: Rolling backwards down hill
I forgot to mention that this is a lifted cart and has burned out one F/R switch a few years back. After looking at some of your upgrades, scottyb, do you think that your upgraded F/R (looks great, btw) and cables would solve the issue?

Re: Rolling backwards down hill
Replaced the F/R with one from Carts Unlimited since it needed a new F/R anyway and it still works in reverse but not forward. There is just a little bit of a whine when the pedal is depressed with the shifter in the forward position, but no movement. I didn't keep trying it because I don't want to burn out the new F/R. Any suggestions as to what to try next/what the problem is?
Thanks guys! |
