97 dcs controller

new controller arrived today a dcx 400.really excited about getting it installed. I had been troubleshooting to make sure my old controller was bad. One of the tests I did was to make sure the motor was good by installing jumpers and connect motor to 12 volts. Only problem is I failed to remove one of the jumpers between S1 and A1 on the motor when I connected the leads back up( how could I miss that). Well of course the controller would not work. It would run forward when the switch was in reverse but I got a code, 5 red blinks on signal light on controller when I tried to go forward. The resister on the solenoid got smoking hot. don't know whether to install another resister and try to troubleshoot or what. does any one out there have any suggestions? Hope I haven't ruined a new controller.
