Default Re: Another 36v to 48v question.....

Wow...let me check a little closer this evening...

Showing lack of electrical/DC knowledge, I was just looking for a number over 6.0...quick glance at the meter and it was over 6 and I moved to the next one....

I will check the batteries again this evening when I get home, and get EXACT numbers. I remember a couple in the high 6.2's, 6.3's, and one in the 6.4 range....

A quick "search" shows that a fully charged 6v should read 6.37?

The batteries are stamped D5...cant imagine the whole pack is bad? is there a way to check my charger is not shutting off prematurely and not completely charging the pack??

Thanks again for all y'alls input!

Attached is a State of Charger (SoC) chart for Trojan batteries and their clones.
Since the difference between 90% SoC (6.31V) and 100% SoC (6.37V) for a 6V battery is only 0.06V, getting measurements that resolve to the nearest 1/100th volt is critical.

If all the batteries in a battery pack can be good, then all the batteries in a battery pack can be bad. The former is a more common occurrence, but the latter is possible.

What charger are you using?

If the D5 is a valid date stamp the batteries are either 6 months or 10 years old.

Check the pack voltage when the charger is nearly done. 48v pack will reach 58-63 under full charge.

36v pack...3 are at 6.37, one at 6.43, and then the two outliers.....6.18 and 6.17!!

I checked the Trojan website and they have a one year warranty but for the original owner. Batteries were supposedly replaced just a couple months prior to picking up the cart. If not able to be replaced under warranty, should I replace with the exact same Trojans or could I use a different brand, but similar amp hour as a direct replacement for those two?

Can't see a reason to replace the entire pack if I am getting at least 100% out of the other four.....agreed??

Connecting the two batteries with low voltage in series and charge them a few hours with a 12V charger.

The two low ones are charging to about 70% and a couple boost charges might get them up in the high 90's.

If your Power Wise charger is like the one shown in attached picture, it shuts off when the on-charge voltage climbs into the 44V to 46V range.

That's the one....

I charged the two batteries in series and both of them, after sitting off charge for 12+hours, are at 6.43 and 6.44.....hopefully the shock treatment worked!
