Default time for new shocks?? 2004 CC DS

To pull my motor, I had to drop one side of the axle and rear shock. When I pressed up on the shock, there was zero resistance, and when I pulled it back down, ditto. So, after 14 years of golf course use, is it time for new shocks?

If it is time, what should I get for my stock cart, stock height? Just get Club Car shocks, or is there something else that might be better in some way?

These shocks fit both the DS and Precedent. They are a tremendous improve from stock shocks.

That won't work on a 2007 DS; both ends are wrong

Walter,

thank you so much for that recommendation. Some of the threads I read about shocks say that no shock will improve the ride if you keep the original transverse leaf spring. Your post gives me hope...haha.

Amazon had them for $23 each, plus shipping, and they listed the Monroe part no. I used that number to find them on ebay, for $20.50 each, free shipping. Picked up two of them.

edit: Both ends are the same as on my '04. If they are the right length, they will work.

Anyone have a Monroe crossover for the fronts?

I use these shocks for the front. But you need to modify them. You need to remove the large top and bottom bushings. Then replace them with a normal CC bushing which are used on all the leaf springs. Then you can fit them in position using the original hardware. They are a little long so you only get to use about 2 inches of the shock travel. It doesn't give you a automotive smooth ride but it is a great improvement over the do nothing stock shocks. All my driving is done on city streets with all of the potholes and manhole covers. I have no idea if these would work on a DS Model.

It appears Walter made the successful switch to Monroe shocks on his Precedent and it has sparked my interest in doing the same to my 18 year old DS cart. We know from others that the Monroe #31176 will work on the DS rear but the front shocks are very close to the curved lower section of the DS front cowl. From Monroe's website they do not list the diameter of the shock tube. From Walter's pic, the Monroe 555002 shock appears to have a larger diameter? I guess a little trim of the cowl would be OK if the Monroe ride quality is that much better. I may take a chance.
