Default Golf Cart and Harley on Single Axle Trailer Doable??

Guys

In the market for a new trailer. I'm considering a 14' single axle PJ trailer. It has 15'' wheels, a ramp gate on the back and removable side rail/ramps on the front. The trailer is 14x83". I was planning on putting the GC up front sideways and a Harley in the back with a Condor wheel chalk. I've had 16' double axle trailers in the past. I want the shorter trailer for easier storage and considering the single axle since my load will be right at 2500 with the cart and Harley on a 3500 Lb axle. Think a single axle is a bad idea for this setup? Trying to save some money on a double axle if I don't need it.

Depends on your weight distribution. The Harley, assuming a big twin and not a Sportster, is likely at or more than the weight of the cart. Probably want to make sure the trailer axle is biased toward the rear of the trailer.

Harley is a big one..Electra Glide but weighs in around 950 LB. I'm guess my 48 volt CC with back seat is closer to 1500. Might be to much weight on the hitch.

That much weight. Really valuable toys. I would feel a lot better with a double axle trailer. I think you will be a lot happier in the long run.

Yeah unfortunately your right. If I go for the double axle it would be foolish not to add the brakes to 1 axle if not both. I'm usually a black color trailer guy but I saw this PJ trailer on the lot that was tractor orange with the shiny aluminum fenders and really liked the orange. Now if the double axle trailer does not help with the weight distribution problem its all for nothing. I would be better off forgetting hauling MC and GC at the same time and just opt for a smaller single axle, no brakes and just haul one at a time. It's not that I really need to haul both but would like the option.

To quote JohnnyB, overkill is under-rated.

Ever have a tire blow out on a single axle trailer ? It's not fun or safe at speed.

Good point scottyb. Over-spec'ing a trailer is recommended.

Nope been lucky in that regard. It's strange how many boat trailers are just single axle. Also think of all the MC trailers that are all single axle.

That's true. It's not like you couldn't do it. But 2 axles and brakes are nice.
Boats are pretty light.
Not sure I want 3000 pounds of trailer pushing me down a hill to a red light either.
