Exclamation 2001 EZ Go TXT F&R problems

I am currently on my 3rd F&R switch (in a month) on this cart and it has done it to me again 😡😡😡😡😡. After replacing the first one, I decided to check my cables. I saw where my A2 cable was arcing out on the frame. Repaired that. After moderate riding for 30-45 min, forward quit on me once again. I disassembled the F&R switch once again and found that a contact had gotten hot and arced. The contact got so hot that it sunk down in the slot and that’s what caused the arc. (Cable going from F&R to solenoid) Alas, yesterday after riding about an hour, boom, no Freaking Forward once again!!!!!!!!! F&R was hot once again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m about to use this cart for a tannerite experiment if it happens again.

Tony, first question I have is the F&R a STOCK unit?

IF it is.....that is part of your problem. What you need is a TRUE HD F&R switch OR convert to a Reversing Contator.
BOITH can be had as Carts Unlimited

The excessive heat at the F&R terminals is caused by a loose connection or a bad cable with lots of internal resistance. OR an excessive amperage draw such as can be created with tall tires and slow going... with perhaps a small tired motor. These are just some of the things that could be causing you to burn up an F&R in 20 minutes.

It’s stock. 99% of my riding is at slow speeds. I hardly ever “open” her up.

For the record, it does have another lever for “speed” or “torque”

The other half of the story !
If you are driving slow in speed mode that is what is causing the high amp pull. Otherwise contact the manufacture of this Speed/torque motor and ask them why the motor is burning up F&Rs and let us know what they say

Buy....and quickly\fastly :) one of Scotty's Reversing contactors. I purchased the Super Duty contactor.....probably 4 years ago. (After burning thru my 3rd HD F\R lever switch) These eliminate the weakest point in the txt system IMHO. Well worth it....plus, switching from forward to reverse is easy with just the switch. No more "arm bending" lever.

I also love the fact that I put the switch into "neutral" when I park it. So.....nobody can "accidentally" turn on the key with their foot on the go pedal and run into anything....or something....or more likely ME!!
