Default Replacing rear axle off a 36v Ez Go

Apparently the rear axle is strips and motor runs perfectly fine, but the tires don't move. I pulled the hub off both sides and they appear stripped. If the hubs are stripped, what about the inside of the axle??
How can I find that out?
Can I take a 48v motor and use it on my 36v system? Reason I ask is I have a parts cart and it is 48v and the rear axle seems to be ok.

EZGO hubs are notorious for stripping out. Your axles are probably not damaged at all just the splines on the hub stripped out. The 48V hubs should fit on your axle so you could put them on but they may not last forever. Look at this page for heavy duty replacements that won't fail.
