Default 98 txt "jumps"

Hello everyone, I'm new to the group and a proud new golf cart owner. I bought a 98 txt from a guy who had already put a lift and atv tires on. I got it for a really good deal after looking for about 2 years. I only use the cart to go to the pool and mailbox in my hood. It's been running great and has new batteries. My only real issue is when shifting the cart "stutters" when going into reverse. Never does it when shifting into drive... maybe once. I have to get the shifter into a fraction of an inch for it to engage into reverse then it does the stutter. After that it runs fine in reverse. Just wondering if this issue had been discussed before and if there is a solution. I've searched the internet and haven't gotten anywhere. Please help I don't want to break something or have it lose reverse altogether.

Thanks again,
Dominic

I’m not anywhere near an expert, but from your description of the problem, it sounds like you have a series cart. Use that link above to confirm the drive type. If it is a series cart, the f/r mechanism has contacts that rotate into position when you select a direction. Again, not an expert, but it sounds like yours may be loose, out of adjustment or the contacts are worn.

Confirm the drive type and these guys will get you straightened out.
