1988 EZGO Marathon resistor cart caught on fire while stopped
It will take off if you move it from neutral, at full speed . I replaced the resistors and the solenoid and it lasted for only a short time and now the same problem. I replaced silinoid again and still staying charged unless key is off or in neutral, with out touching throttle.

Then it's totally mis-wired (bypassing the solenoid), or the solenoid is always powered on, when it shouldn't be. (I think the second might be the case since you already put a new solenoid in). Getting Sparks when connecting the last battery cable?

Use the attached wiring diagram. Connect your digital multimeter (DMM) black (negative) to the battery pack negative. Then follow the attached to find out where you have a closed circuit, when it should be open.
MS2, Key switch, and MS3 all should only be satisfied when: FNR is either Forward or Reverse (not Neutral). - MS2 Key Switch is closed (on). Throttle pedal is pressed. - MS3 Once you get all three switches corrected, you'll be fine. Either ALL have failed in the closed condition, or you have it miswired. |

Re: 1988 EZGO Marathon resistor cart caught on fire while stopped
If you can't follow the wiring diagram (not a criticism, just not everyone can), maybe a friend, coworker, church member, etc. can help you. It should take less than one minute.
MS2 is located on the FNR. MS3 is located on the throttle board. I may be wrong on locations. If you have another wiring diagram that you understand, use it, but NEVER mix and match between multiple diagrams. Pick one, print it out, and maybe snap a few digital photos, and print them. Label wire colors, locations, or anything that will help you in the future. |

Update problem fixed. The throttle position switch was cracked simple as that thanks for all the responses.
