Tip on removing F/R Switch/Handle?
Attempting to switch out the F/R Lever on my DS - even after removing the center screw, it's like the lever is welded (probably corroded) onto the center shaft.
Pry bar lightly, PB Blaster, Mallet, etc. have had no effect on it. Any advice? Maybe slot the plastic with a dremel or something? |

Re: Tip on removing F/R Switch/Handle?
Take a heat gun and slowing and easily go around it several times. What you are trying to do is get that hard plastic to heat up just enough to expand and break-up the oxidation holding it in place. If it will not come off, you can cut in "X" in the end of it and use a cold chisel or good screw driver to pop the plastic apart and then put a replacement handle on. When you reinstall it, coat the shaft and screw threads the neverseize...

I usually have to cut them off when they are that bad. They seize on pretty tight sometimes.

Re: Tip on removing F/R Switch/Handle?
Thanks guys - I pretty much assumed this is what happened.
I used a pry bar with a backer plate on the body and... nothing. I'll heat it, and if that doesn't work I'll do some dremel magic on it. |
