Default 88 ezgo marathon resistor coil hot and smoking

I have a brand new reisitor coil in my cart and driving it for about 10 minutes it will get really hot and start smoking. It will get so hot that the cables will come loose. I'm 100% sure all the cables are in the right places. Any suggestions on what might be the problem?

If you drive slow, the coils will become red hot. most people with resistor carts drive full speed and coast for the most part. It is not uncommon for new coils or coils that get a little dirt and oil on them to smoke a little on the first few time you run hot. The more you use it the less it should smell. You can use a lock washer or I use two jam nut to keep the wires from coming loose. I installed my wires at slight angle to the coil board and use heat resistant wire wrap for all my cables. Cable tie the wires going to the motor to the frame and away from back end of the coil box.
