bad batteries?
I fully charged my pack until the charger cut off. I then checked the voltage and it read 39 volts. I checked it a couple of hours latter and it had dropped. Checked it today over 12 hours and it reads 37.4 without running it at all. Do you think the batteries are bad? Its pretty cold out today so haven't checked the SG yet.

Re: bad batteries?
How old are the batteries? 37.4v is about 80% charged. How is the fluid level? They will drop some after charging. After a 12 hour wait is the best time to get a pack reading. What are the individual battery readings?

Re: bad batteries?
Fluid is good in all cells, the voltage was: 1 at 6.26 , 2at 6.25, 1 at 6.24, 1 at 6.22 and 1 at 6.20 and pack read 37.4 volts.
This reading above was taken longer than 12 hours after full charge when it was reading 39 volts for the pack after the charger cut off.. The batteries are less than 8 months old. |

Re: bad batteries?
How many times have these batteries been charged in the last 8 months? How low do you take them before charging? They may not be broke in yet. In the stickies there is a state of charge chart, you should look at!!

I looked at the sticky and understand a lot more about the state of charge now. I keep the cart at my camp and go there almost every weekend. I don't typically use it much, less than a mile a weekend. I run back and forth to friends that's only a few hundred yards away. I always put it on charge before I leave but i'm not sure i ever got the pack up to its voltage potential. The batteries are charged at least one a week. I'm afraid i didn't break the batteries in correctly. Can i do anything now to correct this and if so what would you suggest? In your opinion was the variation in my batteries voltages in the exceptable range? |

Re: bad batteries?
Just keep them watered and charged. Don`t let the charge go below 50% when using it. Are you having problems with them? Other than the lower charge readings?

The water level is good and I have never had to add water so far. I don't know if I have ever run them below 50% but I would think not as little as I have run it and charging every week. I also read on one of the threads if the resistor coils and there connections are rusty, which mine are, it could rob alot of power and make it run slow. Is this true? |

Re: bad batteries?
Sounds like you you are not getting a full charge on the batteries to start with. You may have 1 battery that is bad. Dropping in voltage under power is normal. Hook your meter to each battery one at a time and go under power and list your readings. Do you drive slow alot or at wot most of the time?

My only concern is as I stated earlier when I charged it last the pack voltage got to 39 volts, but after 12 hours it was down to 37.4 volts. After looking at the state of charge sticky on this site that's only about 80%. Also it looks like my pack should be reading about 38.2 volts at full charge. Is this about right, since they are less than 8 months old? |
