2008 Club Car Precedent Corrosion question
Hi,
I'm considering purchasing a used Club Car and I'm trying to figure out how much its worth in its current condition. On the surface its in decent shape for its age. There is a small tear on the front seat a couple scratches along the side valance panels and that's about it. The rest of the plastics seem to be in good shape. Tires need replacing, some are worn and cracked. There is corrosion on the forward leafspring hangers of the rear suspension. This looks to be directly under the battery tray. It has (4) 12volt Trojan batteries (3) years old. It also has a pathetic speed limiter, based on my research on this forum I believe its set to level 1. Thanks to this forum, I have some ideas on how to remedy this. My biggest concern is the corrosion under the battery tray on the rear suspension leaf hangers. Is this Normal? I plan to do a lift kit down the road and if needed clean up those alloy suspension hangers.. however I'm wondering if that corrosion is a sign of a more serious problem. Your input is appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: 2008 Club Car Precedent Corrosion question
The pathetic speed is probably a dead speed sensor. That's a super easy check, look up the sticky thread here. Be sure to buy a quality sensor. Cheapies fail very quickly.
Yes, many of the Precedents do get some corrosion on the frame by the spring mount. Keeping the battery tray and batteries clean by rinsing and using an acid neutralizer help prevent further problems. Repairing any corrosion that's already there can be tricky. Getting the aluminum thoroughly clean of any existing corrosion and then treating that area with a corrosion inhibitor, or priming with a self etching primer and using a high quality paint will help prevent future problems. |

Re: 2008 Club Car Precedent Corrosion question
Not sure if this warrants a new thread or not.
So I ended up purchasing the 2008 Precedent. First thing I did was take it to the local shop to get the computer updated to speed level 4. The guy doing it discovered an error code on the speed sensor. So I purchased the speed sensor and replaced the cap with wires only. This alone seemed to give me much better speed. My question is, should I have replaced the little magnet or is replacing the cap sufficient? |

If the magnet is not broken/cracked, don’t touch it or it will be.
