They look to have them there: http://www.carrus.com/product/102947601

Now, before ordering, I would confirm with them it really is the one on the picture with the ferrule inside it!

Thank you very much, sformal. I had already checked out that site. That is actually where I got my picture of the grommet from. Unfortunately, they are in the Netherlands and do not ship to the U.S..

If you are so frustrated...

How many would you need? I could ask my son who is in France to order it and re-mail it to you by post.

No idea about customs cost on your side, but should not be too much.

I'm pretty sure that Carrus site is simply using a generic stock photo of the item. These things haven't been in production in over 10 years and if you were able to find some they'd probably be dry-rotted.

Old ones fall out, that's why they stopped making them. Drill a hole and put a bolt through the frame. Lock nut on the back. It will never fall out again.

Thanks, sformal, for the very generous offer of shipping them to me! You are very kind. But I don't want to ask so much of you. And like Dave said, that is probably a stock photo and if they haven't made these in 10 years they probably don't have the threaded ones anyway.

This type of grommet managed to hold up my windshield for 13 years until my idiot relative lost it, so I don't see a flaw with this method. And I don't want to drill more holes in my support post.

I found these do-hickeys that I can insert into the plain grommet that I have and try to jury-rig my own:

I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again everyone for your help. The folks on this forum are awesome!

You tried seeing if any of the rivet nuts would work in the new grommets?

https://www.mcmaster.com/standard-rivet-nuts

Or, you might find something else that would work if you browsed their site long enough.

Rivnuts was going to be my suggestion too. I use them for loads of things where i do not want a visible nut. Then use the later type grommets trimmed to suit.

That sounds odd to me! i was a dealer for carrus parts and they claimed to ship worldwide at the time. Many many dealers used their parts but maybe the inrush of chinese parts has made them have a rethink.
