Convert a Powerwise EZGO charger for a Club Car
I recently bought a 2004 EZGO cart that came with a 2004 EZGO Powerwise 36V battery charger 28115 g04. In 2015 I purchased a new Schauer 36V charger with a crow foot male connector for my 1974 Club Car. My goal is to keep the Schauer charger for my 2004 EZGO and hope to convert the 2004 Powerwise to be the charger to sell with my Club Car. The issue is that on the old 2004 Powerwise D-connector there is that smaller third red wire which I learned serves as a safety devise so that whilst the cart is being charged, it will not allow someone to operate the cart.
Is there a way to disable this feature so that I can use the Powerwise charger with a crow foot connector on the Club Car? I tried connecting the two larger black and white wires from the Powerwise to an adapter with Crow Foot connector plugged into the Club Car but the charger did nothing. Thank you for your help. Re: Convert a Powerwise EZGO charger for a Club Car
This was my first post. I did a search and found others with this same question but did not find the answer. One post said to put the red wire with the white. Then the recipient of the help replied that this did not help his situation, using the Powerwise on a crows foot two wired plug.
Still not sure if this can be done, using a Powerwise battery charger 28115 g04 to charge a 1974 Club Car. Your help is appreciated. Laurent |

Re: Convert a Powerwise EZGO charger for a Club Car
Looking at the charger schematic that wire gets connected to the negative charger output.
The main issue I can see with the modification is if You unplug the charger DC plug from the cart while the charger is running it will continue to run. The charger control board may sense the current flow stopping and shut down the AC, but You will need to test it to verify it turns off. |
