voltage reducer
due to the hurricane I had my golf cart pickup at the place I got it from. I was going to install lights and back set but thinking I'll just let him do it there. It's a 2014 and I ask him if the voltage reducer was included in the price. He said no and it really didn't need it. I've read here it pulls down the batteries that its hook to. It will not get used alot. Is this a bad idea?

Ideally, you would want to have one. It is not good to unevenly drain the batteries. Club Car DS driver’s club #59 |

Re: voltage reducer
If it doesn't have one I would get a voltage reducer. That puts an even drain on the battery pack.

Re: voltage reducer

Re: voltage reducer
IF it is only going to be used as you say, then it is probably OK.
The problem is that people almost invariably can't leave it at just that. Once you start adding more things, such as USB ports to charge your phone, perimeter lights, a radio or whatever, you then definitely need a reducer. If you put the reducer in to start with then adding the other things becomes easy and you don't have to retrofit the lights to the reducer. The other thing you could look at is getting lights that operate at 48V and connecting them to the whole pack. |

Re: voltage reducer
Another thing to think about (had it happen yesterday) you or somebody else could mistakenly/accidentaly turn the lights on in the daytime and run all day without knowing it.
Neighbor at the beach saw it and turned them off. They had to be on at least 8 hours. I believe in putting a reducer (from the whole pack) on electric carts. |

Re: voltage reducer
The voltage reducer is a good idea. Be sure to get one that turns on and off with the key so it does not draw power all the time. Another idea is to put an on/off relay connected with the light switch so it only comes on when the lights are switched on.
Any imbalance created in the pack by drawing 1 or 2 batteries down lower than the other batteries in the pack will NEVER resolve itself with pack recharging. Individual battery balancing (charging) will be required. This is important to understand. |

Re: voltage reducer
I went ahead and let the dealer just install it without reducer for now. After I catch up with my hurricane damage I'll have more time to upgrade it more. Like I said it will not get used very much with lights.
