As far as storing batteries:
The OBC recharges every 15 days. The 45 days seems too long, but it does say it will re-charge if the pack voltage drops below an undefined "trigger level". |

Yeah, curious what the trigger level would be. If it's too low then I'll make a point to initiate a charge myself when pack gets around 50 volts. Right now its 49.8 and it last completed its charge November 1st.

Re: When will my DPI Gen IV Maintenance Kick in?
DPI CSR told me some months back it would recharge every 45 days or if the pack dropped below ~80% (at least I thought that was what they told me... Now I am doubting them or myself....)

How much does a fully charged pack lose every day just sitting there without any draw?

Re: When will my DPI Gen IV Maintenance Kick in?
Gotcha! My pack of T875's is new this past spring so taking every precaution to keep them in good shape. As per everyone's recommendtion, I always put the cart on the charger after every use and never let it get below 50 volts (80% state of charge) before popping it back on the charger. ...so thats what troubles me about waiting for the DPI maintenance "trigger". It's just under 50 volts now and nothing from the charger as of yet so waiting kinda worries me...

Re: When will my DPI Gen IV Maintenance Kick in?
Lots of factors to consider for self discharge ... temperature seems to have a major influence as NoleFan4Ever pointed out.
From Battery University (BU)(https://batteryuniversity.com/learn/...lf_discharge): " Among rechargeable batteries, lead acid has one of the lowest self-discharge rates and loses only about 5 percent per month. With usage and age, however, the flooded lead acid builds up sludge in the sediment trap, which causes a soft short when this semi-conductive substance reaches the plates." I have also attached a few of the charts from BU showing discharge rates for different batteries and for lead acid at difference temperatures. There is also some interesting reading from C&D Technologies (the company taking over Trojan). Have at look at their self discharge plot for their AGM battery. It shows a self discharge rate of 1% per month at 40 F (5 C), 2% per month at 60 F (15 c) and 4% per month at 80 F (27 C). Above 80 F, the self discharge rate doubles for every 20 F (11 C) increase in temperature. Your Trojan T875's may not exactly fit this discharge rate curve but the trend will definitely be similar with a higher discharge rate at higher temperatures. So keep the heat turned down in the garage this winter ! |
