Light kit install confusion

Having issues installing my light kit.
2011 club car precedent . Pretty new to the golf cart world. I got the cart on trade and decided to give to my girls for Christmas. One of the stipulations of trade was the owner include a Light kit and a rear seat kit.
I got the cart about a month ago and of course waited till the last minute to put everything on it. (Christmas present) so I was of course rushing.
I went to install lights and found out that I needed the bucket harness. And appeared to also need a voltage reducer.
I was running out of time but ordered them in.
Upon trying to install (everything is in place) the plug ins just did not make sense to me.
Do I have the correct harnesses?
The bucket harness is a 12 pin connector but only the positive and negative wires plus the grey wire with bullet connector are used ?
What does not make sense to me is the harness that came with the lights plugs into the dash panel with the key switch, then that in turn plugs into the new bucket harness. 12 pin to 12 pin.
But now the original harness (9pin plug)that comes from the battery/ and control box is just left hanging, and not used anymore?
I am not understanding how the dash panel will communicate with the rest of the cart such as the diagnostic port, or the back up alarm?
Am I still missing something or am I just that ignorant? I have never had a problem with wiring or anything else that is do it yourself , but this one has me stumped.
I have watched video after video but none of them are clear about that part.
Next,
The voltage reducer is a RHOX Brand , and it is all hard wired , is there an easy wire to get to for the remote turn on ? Or will I need to run a dedicated wire to the key switch ? If I would have done a little more research I would have definitely went with a plug in play reducer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Which RHOX reducer did you get?

Just a few basics...

The voltage reducer outputs 12V and most accessories are 12V (including the lights) so your aim is to treat the 48V and 12V systems as separate systems. The only involvement of the 48V system is to run the reducer, from then on everything is done on the 12V circuit and it is just like wiring a car. The one big exception to auto wiring is that the chassis of the cart is NOT used as a negative return. All negatives are wired back to the reducer negative.

The reducer should be a 48V to 12V one (not a 16V to 12V). This means that the current drawn from the pack comes from the whole pack (instead of just two batteries) and this keeps the pack balanced.

If your reducer has a fifth wire then that one is a trigger wire and goes to the "cold" side (power only when key is on) of the key switch. If your reducer has only four wires then it is preferable to run a 48V relay which is operated from the key switch - that way the key switch doesn't have the whole reducer power running through it.

I wired my cart separately and I did not use the supplied harnesses so I can't help with the specifics of those. There are many threads on voltage reducers so do a search. A recent one which may help is http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...cer-keyed.html.

Relatively new to the cart world as well. The good folks here guided me through many briar patches. Assuming its a Precedent specific light kit, its usually plug and play with no wire splicing necessary - but report back with the light kit make/model and model of reducer. My light kit and reducer was all plug and play but it was definitely confusing to install; I literally laid it all out on the floor and did a dry run before putting it into the cart. Rushing through it is never a good idea and can often lead to something getting fried.

I’ve only done two of these and I didn’t use the bucket harness on either because it wasn’t necesssary for the way I hooked them up, so I’m a little fuzzy on this but hopefully someone else who knows will chime in.

If I remember right, The 9 pin plug on the light harness is the expansion plug for turn signal, brake lights and Horn kit. That plug should be left UNplugged, unless you have the turn signal kit.
It’s the same shape and fits the 9 pin plug on the dash harness, but should NOT be plugged in there. Leave the dash harness plugs Alone.

The bucket harness connects to your voltage reducer, and the light kit harness 12pin connector is plugged into the 12 pin bucket harness connector. All other plugs should be left alone.
