![]() whats the pros and cons to both scenarios? I know with a tight belt is gonna be prone to failure a lot sooner..

![]() If to tight it will strain the starter will move the cart while trying to start to loose you will loose performance and top end speed

![]() This thread is for EZGO, but similar results can be had by sourcing a belt that is roughly 3/4"-1" shorter than stock for your cart:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/ezgo-...en-clutch.html A worn belt (or one that is any longer than stock) will, as Unicorn said, rob You of power and top speed, and also could cause slippage issues. As to shorter belts wearing faster, I have *just* replaced the 1" shorter drive belt on my 97 EZGO with a built 350 engine after 4 years of some pretty serious, heavy use - and that was due to physical damage from some sort of debris on the trails, etc, not because it was worn and in need of replacement. The difference that a 3/4" shorter belt will make is night and day, yes it will be a little sticky for a few break-in hours, but the net result is completely worth it. |

![]() Depends, if you have a G2 G9 they have a tensioner you can pull the engine forward to tighten it. You can also put a cut sheave on the secondary that will tighten it and give you a low gear for towing and climbing with no other effects. You can get a kevlar HD belt the gboost it is a hair wider it is tighter and works well with worn clutches. I ran cut sheave and umax spring and HD belt on my G9 it worked great. Then I put a different clutch on and it was not right ended up had to change the belt size and move the engine which now is a clone, to get it right. The clone was against the trans and new clutch needed longer belt. If you have a newer yamaha with team clutches they are different search for info on those.
In general tighter belt will have better take off power, too tight you lost top speed. Loose belt will start to bog on hard takeoffs. Typical belt should have about 1.5" slack when you push down on the top in center of clutches. |

![]() Thank you all gentlemen! I did some digging around on here and found the tensioner cable.. took some slack out of it and experimented, then put slack in it and experimented. now its a matter of finding the sweet spot. I also bypassed the governor on the lil Honda motor and now it runs great like it should. haha.
I was able to use OEM belt (new one though) while doing my swap.. just had to monkey around and get it where I wanted it. Now I need to go figure out how to adjust my 780 a tad bit to my likings and ill be happy as a pig in poo. |

![]() I had that issue, what I did is took a gps and did a top speed run which back then was around 30mph stock power. Tightened the tensioner until it lost top speed, let it back out a little, it was perfect. Took off good and worked best. With the clone I had to make a solid bolt it would break the cable. I put a rubber washer on it that worked well. I ran that setup for a lot of years, eventually I modded the clone and needed more rpm and could not get it from the G9 clutch that was about worn out, found a 94c for it actually an ezgo clutch, got my rpm but its not as smooth.

![]() If you do the flywheel make sure you have a way to start it, some have problems have to get a HD starter. I just put a rod and cam in my 420 this summer, it runs harder for sure and its just the Vegas cheater cam though I am running 1.3 rockers on it so it comes out like one of the cart cams by numbers.

![]() No worries. It’ll be a pull start job. Haha. Once income tax season hits then I’ll start the build provided I’m allowed... lol
