![]() I bought a new Gates belt thinking it was stretched or worn out cause there was so much slack that i could see it hanging and it has no low end torque but lots of speed. Well come to find out the belt is riding in the middle, bottom or inside the rear driven pulley. It is not riding on the top of the pulley / clutch as what has been stated in other threads. I see the spring and the part that compresses or moves is touching the other part when it opens up. Looks like it may be fully open. So my question is, is it broken, can it be fixed or needs replacing or im just gonna have to take it off to find out the hard way? Which I dont mind doing. Now how to fix it if fixable? Or just replace it? How much does one cost or to get a good deal on one? I think the dealer quoted $250 or $150for the drive or driven clutch to me here locally and both in stock. Id rather support our sponsors than a local CC dealer as they dont help much.

![]() Might just need cleaned and lubed to open fully. Pull it off and see if it is OK, driven clutches are easy to take apart.

![]() I read a post by Wass in the past that suggested that emory cloth could be used to smooth the shaft and the inner sheath it slides in, if the clutch halves are not sliding freely. No lubricant though.

![]() ok i got the clutch off but it will not come apart. I took the #2 part, in the picture, retaining clip off. It should come apart but isnt. Any thoughts to get it apart so I can clean it up to see if its still good?

![]() Did the spring come off ?
Did the key stay on the shaft or is it stuck up inside the pully ? Yep spray it with some rustbuster/wd40 put it in the vice and use the old pully belt to yank on it a few times to break it loose ! |
