89 EZGO gas Marathon build (244 CC Robin engine)
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the site and just picked up a 1989 EZGO Marathon with a 244cc Robin engine. I feel like I stole it at $350. My first cart. It runs, but needs a lot of TLC. The previous owner did a ton of engine work; new engine, ignition, electrical, etc. The weather up here in Mass isn't very cooperative right now (my garage isn't heated). Over the winter, I'm going to start on new seats and body parts, then get moving in the Spring. Great site here with tons of information! Will post pics as soon as I hit 7 days. -Bill |

Welcome !!! The older 2-stroke Marathons are a great way to "cut your teeth" in the Golf Cart world, You should have a lot of fun with the project! There is a TON of info on the forums as to some mods You'll want to or have to make (IE removing the factory oiler which at almost 30 years old and running premix, etc) as well as people who can point You towards the deals on parts, etc !!!

Marathons can be turned into some really nice looking and running carts for not a lot of money, here are before and after pics of the last one we did here at the shop - total investment including cart was just over $500 and about 9hrs of shop time

I've got an 86 2 stroke I bought a couple months ago and am having a lot of fun fixing this and that. Cheap fixes so far and every little thing makes it go a little better. Still a ways to go though. My daughter loves it!
