Default What is this for on the crankshaft?

Can anyone tell me what this groove is for on the crankshaft? Nothing touches it or comes near it.

Hard to tell from the picture but could be a ramp for a compression release.

My old and new crank have it, it appears to me in the first pic it's there just for clearance for the pickup coil mounting bracket. I don't remember for sure when I took it apart but there's a reason I swung the bracket out of the way like that

We checked the coil and nothing comes within an inch of that groove? Oh well, the machinist knows to make sure to put it back in after he sleeves the shaft.
