96 Club Car ds, jerky forward & reverse, then slow then stops.
I have a 96 club car ds, 48 V, no problems till a week ago. Driving along slow then it came to a stop & died. Tried it again next day, it went forward, jerking, then died. Tried it again a few hours later, gave it less throttle, it went forward slow, then I put in reverse, with little throttle, then forward again, gave it more throttle, then real jerky then died. Been reading forum for possible solutions. I've got it jacked up on stans now. Going to look underneath at throttle assembly. Read a bit on possible "potentiometer" problem, or speed sensor. Batteries are 2 yrs old, "Trojans" 6 batteries, all testing at 8,5 to 8,6 volts. Any thoughts appreciated. Thank you, Craig.

Hey Craig. Usually that is a sign of low voltage, but your checks say differently. Do you have a V-Glide (VSP)? Seems like something between there and the motor itself.
You can test the output signal like this: Take the yellow wire off pin 3 on your controller and with the cart jacked up, in forward, and key on, check the voltage from pedal up to pedal down and it should go from 0vdc to 5vdc gradually changing. |

Put your volt meter to pack voltage then try driving it on the jack stand does it hold 48 volts

Make sure the solenoid is closing. It may be trying to run through the precharge resistor. If it is the resistor will be very hot.

You need to load test each battery, you have a weak one in there somewhere.

Since this is a 1996 model and the OP mentioned a speed sensor, a failed Dynamic Brake solenoid would cause this same symptom because the resistor coil would be inline with the Motor Armature at all times.
If this is a Regen cart, make sure the resistor coil is not getting hot after a short drive. |
