12volt winch

I have two Warne winches on my cart. Front is permanently attached and rear is on a tow hitch. Both are wired into the same 12V marine battery and they will pull my cart out of any situation I put myself in.

Where do you store the battery?

It seems most people on this forum are fans of using a separate power source for running their winch. However, there are others that run a reducer off their battery pack to run their winch. I have yet to get mine going, so I can not offer experienced advice. However, just wanted to let you know there is more than one way.

But finding a reduced to accommodate the high amp draw a winch will need is difficult without spending an arm and leg. The typical 30a reduces we commonly use on these carts just won't cut it.

Much more economical to use an aux 12v battery.

Where do you normally mount that extra battery?

Modify the battery tray to add extra angle to support a battery, add it to the bag well, I've heard modifying a support under the front cowl. Any place you can think of that is easily accessible for charging is fine.

Can you give me a link to where someone is using a reducer to run a winch? I would like to see what sort of reducer they are using. Thanks.

In my DS there is NO room in the battery tray for anything else. I guess it could be strapped down in the hole on the rear of cart.

Do you have an amp chart with your winch, comparing line pull with amps drawn? The reason I ask is I recently put in a DPI reducer. Spoke with the company and asked if a future winch, [if I needed one] was possible. I was told as long as the load was just under 30a I should be fine as the reducer has overcurrent protection and will just shut down for a bit if the load is too great. Hope this helps.
