Sticking brake
I just added a second passenger cable to the driver side after installing the HD springs which caused the brake to stay engaged. I've been tinkering with the new cable and it just never fully releases. I've adjusted the equilizer and can't find anything to fix this. Any ideas? I bent the spring plate to try and relieve some of the distance but still am having trouble with the brake staying engaged and draining my batteries.

Re: Sticking brake
If its a brand new cable its either routed incorrectly (bends too tight) or the brake lever mechanism in the drum is what's sticking.
The brakes will almost never fully release. You'll always get some amount of drag, but you should be able to turn the wheel by hand. |

Re: Sticking brake
Remove the wheel. Remove the drum. Clean the brake system with brake cleaner. Using the geared wheel near the drum mechanism, adjust the brakes slightly more loose. It’s possible the brakes self adjusted too tight when the shorter cable continually “over braked” that side of the cart. I would use the master adjustment inside the drum and see if this solves the issue.

Re: Sticking brake
I read a forum article that I need to take out the rear bracket and let it just hang

Re: Sticking brake
If you do that, the brake can not work. The "pull" is between the bracket and the lever at the back of the drum. If the bracket is just hanging there, stepping on the pedal will just pull the cable housing closer to the drum and not actually engage the brake.

Re: Sticking brake
The cable bracket at the axle needs to stay in place,
but the wire "cable hanger" needs to be removed after a lift is installed. |

Re: Sticking brake
Don't know what year your Club car is, or if the design of the cable hangers have changed. Here is what the hangers on my 92 DS look like.
They mount within the "tabs" that the front leaf spring bolts mount. IMG_1692 - Copy.jpg IMG_1701 - Copy.jpg My cart is lifted so I can not show the cable going through the hanger. This shows the driver side hanger looking from front to back. Hope this helps. Good luck! |

Re: Sticking brake
I have a 06 precedent, I don't have those. Everything was good until I put the HD springs on, now the equilizer doesn't sit straight, it's angled since the driver side now has more tension and the brake is engaging

Re: Sticking brake
Are you sure it was a passenger side cable you installed?
What was part number on the box? What is the length of it? Is it the same as cable installed on passenger side of cart? |
