So I really need to install a meter and run it to 50% and recharge to get the most out of the batteries. How long does it take to optimize new batteries?

Sorry for so many questions...this place is just so full of knowledge. Thanks guys!

Yes, you definitely need to invest in a digital dash meter to keep an eye on your voltages and it will help if you ever need to troubleshoot any problems. 50% is the lowest threshold to stay above, but I always kept mine above 70% if I could help it.

It usually takes between 12 to 20 charge cycles to get the full potential of your batteries.

Now, I use a ZEVA monitor to watch my lithium pack and a Drok as a back up.

When I was running FLA I used the one Scottyb sells. It's cheap and give a good idea where your at, granted I've had 2 and they both read lower (.5 and .4 volts respectively) than what my calibrated digital multimeter read. But it still gives you a good representation of your pack voltage.

Here's a link to Scottyb's:

Gonna order one tonight. Just use the hot wire off the reverse buzzer? I think I did read that before.
