New bottom up project cart
Just bought my first golf cart since I just moved to the Bahamas. I'm on a small navy base here. I got the cart for a good price since it's basically just a shell.
It's a 2000 DS club cart. I want to upgrade it to 48v, use lithium ion batteries, and replace the shocks and springs. That's my main start. I'm bran new to this and I've read a lot online but wanted the opinion of actual experience people. What parts you recommend, what are some good sites to purchase from. It would be great if I could just find a kit that had everything I needed but if I have to buy everything separate that will work too. I'm looking to spend around $4000-$5000. I appreciate any help or suggestions. |

Re: New bottom up project cart
Welcome! 1st time driving a golf cart was on Harbor Island in the early 90s.
I've bought from a few of the site sponsors listed above, never an issue. |

Hi Welcome!
Im new here too, re-building a precedent. Lots of helpful people so far. The “site sponsors” tab is a good place to shop for parts from, and support those that support the forum. Theres also a classified section where you might score some parts from. |

Re: New bottom up project cart
Welcome!
I would recommend reading through as many threads here as you can: https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/forumdisplay.php?f=98 Here are 2 threads that will give you ideas for what BMS system you want use. This one (https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=149685), really helped me when I did my build. This is a newer one that gives ideas on more affordable option:https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=160302 I have a build thread, https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=147103, it jumps around quite a bit so it can be hard to follow at times. It was a complete tear down and build so whatever parts came in at the time is what I worked on. I built mine for hunting purposes. Looking forward to seeing your build! |

Re: New bottom up project cart
Is this a good deal? I definitely want to go with Lithium Ion batteries. How do I know if this will fit in my cart?

Re: New bottom up project cart
You would have issues with fitting a 14 module Leaf pack in a DS. It would take some fab work and you would more than likely have to do it in a 6 and 8 pack configuration. I fit a one pack 14 module in mine, but mine was a gas frame so it was easier.
You will want to pay close attention to continuous amp discharge if you buy a package with an existing BMS. Many of the techdirect packages would not work with a GC. |

Re: New bottom up project cart
The latest recommended drop in batteries that I see the forum recommending are the RoyPow batteries. Do a search for Roypow on the forum. Plenty of results

Re: New bottom up project cart
Couple questions.
Will this work for mine? https://www.ebay.com/itm/48V-Battery...-/233485977681 How do I know if mine is a precedent, or are all club car's that? Is there any speed difference in a 105ah vs a 160ah or does it just give you more charge time. |
