Default 6 volt to 8 volt

1990 club car DS. Can I replace one or maybe two of the 6 volt batteries with 8 volt batteries?

It has been done before. Not the best way to do it at all, but it has been done. Very hard to charge a pack when it consist of 6v and 8v batteries....

Hey thanks, I checked it today, full charge it's putting out 39.9 volts at the batteries. You'd think that would be plenty of power. Runs great on the flat, but doesn't like hills. Drops to 4 or 5 mph.

I would not mix 6v and 8v batteries. As Nole said, charging is a challenge, if they're mixed they will never charge properly. How old are your current batteries? They may read fine while at rest, but under a load they're dropping. Also, these old series carts are not speed demons, 10-12 mph is about all they'll do on flat ground, and even slower uphill.

Thanks, I'm going to leave it alone. The batteries are only 2 years old, but tested under load 2 of them were at only 3 or 4 volts. So I replaced those 2. You're right, it runs about 12 on the flat. We have a lot of hills and it will slow to about 4 mph on the steep ones. I installed a battery meter and they seem to stay charged for a long time. I've driven it two time for a total of about 4 miles, and the meter shows fully charged.
