I would be surprised if the cables you are seeing is #1, but it could be. It is more than likely just a heavier insulation on them.

Well I guess I’ll open her back up and get to replacing some cables.

I need at least two gauge everywhere except the F1 and F2, correct?

Yes, I actually used a couple of my 6g's and ran them to the F1/F2 to beef them up. They are low current directional cables.
