Backup led light hookup thru reverse buzzer
I have a 2007 Club Car Precedent with 48 volts using (4) 12 volt trojan batteries.
I am trying to hookup a led lighthead as a backup light on the cart. I am tying to use the factory reverse switch or the factory buzzer wiring as a trigger to power the led.But as I checked the voltage at those wires I noted about 32 volts which i way to much juice for the light. Is there away to do this project using what I have. Or will I have to resort to a toggle switch or some type of push button switch to activate the light to achieve my goal of reverse light My wife thinks I am a nut for even bothering. Thats why I like to tinker. Any pictures, diagrams or someones personal knowledge would greatly be appreciated.Right now I am learning how a golf cart lives and breathes |

Re: Backup led light hookup thru reverse buzzer
Thanks simple man for reading my post. Can you tell me how I engage the 48v relay .Thru a wire I presume . Do you use a jumper wire from the switch to the new relay to energize it. Does the 48v relay have a lug or a spade terminal that has 12 volt to attach to I am learning as I go here. Its not as simple as a 12v car.

Re: Backup led light hookup thru reverse buzzer
I am not sure if they make a 48 volt relay but if they do you could use it to energize the coil with the way you are talking, and then have the 12volts on the normally open side. This way once you energize the coil it alows the 12 volts to go through the relay and power your lights. I will see if I can find a pic of the relay I am talking about. I use them in controls all the time.

Hopefully I attached the the little sketch I made of the circuit I am trying to achieve. Can you look it over to see if that's the way it should be done

Volt to 12 volt reducer? If so I would the power from it to light the back up light. If not the diagram you showed will work as long as the power from the batteries is 12volts. I would recommend getting a reducer so that it draws power from all the batteries instead of a couple and then you can run all of your 12 volt accessories |

Re: Backup led light hookup thru reverse buzzer
Just make sure you run the ground for the backup light back to the same battery (negative) that you picked up the 12v positive from for that light. It is not shown at all in your schematic.

Re: Backup led light hookup thru reverse buzzer
Thanks gatorclub. I do not have a 48v to 12 v reducer on the machine. I am not planning to put anymore electrical devices on the machine besides the 12 volt led which does not draw that much current so I think. And yes the machine has four 12 v batteries so I can draw the needed 12 volts.
So as I understand it.... in my drawing... the wire that feeds the reverse switch will now go to and put power into the new relay then back to the reverse switch. And when the reverse switch is activated this will open the relay so the 12 volt current will pass through to the new light source. Please let me know if I am misunderstanding you. Thanks for your help. |
