FE290 Not Starting
My 1999 FE290 will not start the main motor sometimes. When I hit the gas pedal the starting motor will start but the main engine will not kick in. If I let of the gas peddle and push it back down both motors will kick in. Seems to just do it at random times. Any ideas will help. Thanks everyone.
I did have my engine rebuilt by a club car dealer in Houston Texas recently. |

Re: FE290 Not Starting
Maybe a silly questions, but does it make any difference if you pull the choke when it won't fire off?

Re: FE290 Not Starting
I’m thinking you are correct. If I hold the check button it will help. I have always notice I don’t have a lot of gas at anytime in the upper fuel filter. There both new filters and hoses. Both have very good clamps to prevent leaks. I have a fairley new after market fuel pump. Should I go to a better fuel pump?

Re: FE290 Not Starting
It's not uncommon for a fuel filter to not "fill" with fuel.
First, triple check and make sure the airbox lid is completely sealed. And theres no air leaks between the air filter and the carb intake. Any air leak can cause issues. Disconnect the pulse line going to the fuel pump first. Blow it put with compressed air and make sure its clear. Then disconnect the line from the carb, put it into a catch can and step on the pedal. Let us know how the output is. Having said that, it's not abnormal to have to choke it a bit to get it started when cold. Does it only do it on a cold start of the motor (after the cart has been sitting) or all the time even if you've been driving thr cart around? |

Re: FE290 Not Starting
Normally when it’s cold. I’ll do the checks you suggested tomorrow and update results. Thank you for the info

Re: FE290 Not Starting
Well that's a good thing. May just be perfectly normal to have to choke it a bit first thing to get it started. As long as you dont have to choke it EVERY time you start it. Or have to choke it to keep it running, may be perfect normal.
