Re: updated photo of of my 83 marathon re-build
mike, on every pic i see you have the clutch on. did you replace the crank seals when you had i torn down?
you say you bought a rebuilt clutch-is it the drive one? if so you need a puller. you can make one with a 3/4 fine bolt about 3" inches in length an a 5/8 dia. rod about 5" long. pull the big bolt off the engine and soak the crank with pb or some other penetrant and then insert the the rod and then the bolt. this works best with an impact. if you can't get the bolt to go in easily you might need to run a tap down the thread first. the pic is my homemade puller. |

Re: updated photo of of my 83 marathon re-build
Back at it. Two years since my last post. Wow time fly's by. So yesterday I got tired of looking at all my engine parts around the garage. I also had two engines on the bottom shelf of my rack in the garage and one in a cart in the back yard. The cart I am refering to is the one that this post is all about. back then I had switched the rear end and secondary from another cart i had thinking it would help. At the same time I re-built the top end for my first time and did a compression test and it was only around 60. So the cart sat. The kids and I took it for a ride from time to time but it got to a point where it would not go anymore because the secondary was bad.
Well I switched the top end off my parts motor to the motor from one of my spare carts then pulled my motor out om my good cart and swapped it with the newly put together motor. To my surprise it started right up and sounded pretty good. I ran it for a little while and found that it was doing the same thing as it was doing before the swap. That when I realized that the secondary was bad on the axle that I previously took off another cart for no reason. So then I had a motor that ran but the cart wouldn't go. I decided to put my original axle back in and I had a new secondary laying around so I bolted it up to my axle and slid the whole thing under the cart. It was a pain doing it that way but O well. Surprisingly it works I tied in the exhaust and air filter and the thing purrs. Everything seems to be working perfect so far. |

Re: updated photo of of my 83 marathon re-build
This is the first time I have ever replaced a secondary. Is it supposed to have a gap like this one does? all I did is slid it in and tightened up the blot. It seems to work just fine.
