Slow Throttle Response
I got my G16 limo running fairly good. However, the throttle response is very slow. I can lightly hold the throttle and the engine is idling just fine. when I press the throttle nothing happens for maybe 5-8 seconds before it starts reaving and going. Once going I have no throttle response after 1/2 throttle. In fact it starts to die and I have to get off the throttle. I installed a new carb and filter. Any advice??

Re: Slow Throttle Response
....Also, I noticed when I full throttle in neutral the engine revs up then down, then up, then down continuously. Could this be the governor? and it this normal??

Re: Slow Throttle Response
Can't help with out being there. But I would start looking for an air leak. Gas carts are picky about sucking air from the wrong places. Dirty air means a shortened service life.

Re: Slow Throttle Response
Make sure you check valve lash. If there is no clearance on the intake it can cause a lot of grief........trust me I learned the hard way. I did a cart and it hesitated and needed choke after warm up as well it would throttle up perfect if you did it slow but if you pushed fast on the accelerator it would hesitate and not accelerate.

Just did a loop around the block, to get up the the small hill and accelerate we had to hold the choke out. Going to look into valve lash and how to fix. Thanks!

Re: Slow Throttle Response
Valve adjustment- Find "Top dead center" on "compression stroke". I remove the valve cover and while turning the crank by hand, I watch both valves close as the piston starts coming up to the top on "compression stroke".
You want a snug fit on the feeler guage (.004). You adjust the setting by loosening the 10mm nut on the back of the rocker arm, then turn the small screw in the nut untill the feeler guage is a sung fit. Tighten the nut, then check with the guage again for a snug fit. May have to do it a few times to get it correct. Do the other side the same way with out turning the crank. I mocked this up on a head I had in the shop. Hope it helps!! |

Re: Slow Throttle Response
if it needs choke on
it is not getting enough fuel likely the carb has junk/dirt/old-gas deposits in the float bowl pull the float bowl off and clean the main jet with carb cleaner spray my g-29 did need a choke when I first got it but a simple cleaning did the trick |
