91 gas marathon- wanting a smoother ride- how about removing one front leaf spring?
I just bought this cart and finally got it running pretty well after replacing the crank bearings and crank seals.
I have a few acres that aren't really that rough (no ruts) just uneven ground. I had to remove the roof because it would rock around so violently, even when I was going fairly slow in my yard. The springs just seem REALLY stiff to me. I know that the shocks aren't locked up- they will give a little as I press down on each corner of the cart. So, I am thinking of ways to smooth out the ride. There are one and a half leaf springs on each side of the front suspension. Has anyone removed the half spring to make the cart's front suspension absorb bumps better? Below is a pic. I was thinking that I just need to unbolt the right side of the springs and then remove the "band" that joins the two springs together. Will this work or will the single spring likely break? Any other tips for getting a smoother ride? FYI- I am not going to be doing any jumps or anything like that... |

what size tires do you have and try to adjust air pressure. i would not remove any leafs out of the pack due to it was engineered that way. as for the roof mine did the same until i installed the brush guard man i can remember riding around watching the body flex side to side if you don't want a brush guard then maybe try to add a support plate on the inside where the roof mounts to the body that was gonna be my next step but not needed since the brush guard tightend everything up hope this helps

I'm having the same dilemma with my cart:

Re: 91 gas marathon- wanting a smoother ride- how about removing one front leaf sprin
I decided not to change the front springs. I am running the stock turf tires (18-9.5-8 I think). I lowered the pressure from 20psi to 15 psi in the front tires and that seemed to help a little. I did notice yesterday that I seem to sit really close to the rear axle so maybe that is where I should focus my efforts.
I'll be putting some 22 inch ATV tires (10 inch rims) on the rear soon so I'll need to at least make a 4" rear end lift. I have some rear motorcycle shocks laying around and I think I'll try to lift it with those (they should be weaker than the stock rear coil springs). I'll post the results here after I use the weaker motorcycle shocks/springs to lift the rear end- it may be a week or so. |

The springs determine how much weight you can carry. Swaying could probably be bad shocks, thats what they are meant to do. Take the bounce out of the springs, Take one off and push it together then pull it out. If it seems the same both ways , it's bad. It should be harder pulling out than pushing in. Or is it the other way around? Well it should be harder one way,If they push real easy either way ,they are also probably bad
